Natural gas remains in high demand due to its abundance, reliability and clean-burning properties. Yet about half the cost associated with gas-refinement operations is spent on energy consumption.
Midstream industrial processes in particular consume a significant amount energy. We view this as an opportunity to help our customers save millions of dollars through recovering energy that’s already in their plant system and typically wasted through the release of pressure. That’s why we developed our IsoBoost technology.
How the IsoBoost System Works
At the heart of the IsoBoost system is a turbocharger. This device captures the pressure typically wasted in one fluid process flow and then uses that captured energy to boost the pressure in an adjacent flow. The IsoBoost system requires dramatically less maintenance than current pumping configurations and lowers the risk of equipment failure, recovering savings for our customers.
Save with Sour Gas Removal
The IsoBoost system proves its value in amine treating—otherwise known as sour gas removal. The system traps energy released during the depressurization of rich amine in the sweetening process, and then uses it to pump up the pressure of lean amine elsewhere in the plant. The result: a system capable of recovering up to 80% of the energy otherwise wasted in sour gas removal, and less waste means more savings.
Target CO2 Removal
The IsoBoost system targets pressure that would otherwise be released as part of the ammonia production process, a standard process to remove CO2. In this process, the IsoBoost transfers energy from one lean solvent stream to another to return up to 80% of the energy back into the system. All with the help of a small booster pump to make up the difference.
Reduce Grid Reliance
The IsoGen system is a highly compact turbo-generator, combining a high-efficiency turbine with an electric generator in one package. In pipelines carrying crude oil and natural gas liquids, IsoGen can be used for recovering energy from pressure letdowns after vertical drops. In addition, pipeline operators can now use the IsoGen system to generate their own reliable on-site power, providing more flexibility than traditional grid power alone.
