Paul M. Cook

Paul Cook was appointed to ERI’s board of directors after the company’s initial public offering in 2008. Paul Cook is a legendary radiation-chemistry pioneer who founded Silicon Valley’s Raychem Corporation in 1957 where he was chief executive officer for 33 years.  Through his innovative leadership, Raychem developed industrial electronics components with thousands of commercial products serving the aerospace, automotive, construction, consumer electronics, military and telecommunication industries. He is currently the chairman and founder of Promptu Systems Corporation, a private company that develops a speech recognition system that enables the mobile phone user or the television viewer to control programming choices and services using voice commands, a position he has held since June 2000. Paul is also currently the chairman of Global Translation, Inc., a private company that provides automated translation services for television stations and networks, a position he has held since December 2006. In addition, since 1993, Paul has been a member of the board of directors of Sarnoff Corporation, which provides vision, video and semiconductor technology innovations and is a wholly owned subsidiary of SRI International.  Paul was awarded Stanford Research Institute’s highest tribute, the Gibson Achievement Award for his seminal research on micro-algae that was fundamental to today’s research on carbon dioxide capture and bio-fuels.   He was also a recipient of the National Medal of Technology as a visionary and entrepreneur in radiation chemistry.  Paul has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, the American Academy of Science, and the Bay Area Business Hall of Fame.

He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
